Stokes County Sheriff's Office's Press Release
ATV Safety and Laws
With the beautiful Spring weather, longer daylight hours, and school coming to an end, we see more kids enjoying their summer break and getting outside. As kids get out and enjoy their time riding their motorcycles and 4-wheelers, we begin to receive more complaints about trespassers on private property, erratic driving, or juveniles riding on public roadways. Parents, we ask for your help with these issues as this can be extremely dangerous and possibly criminal. Adults that allow juveniles to commit acts that could be criminal are also subject to being charged with a misdemeanor offense for allowing their child to ride on public roads or trespass on someone’s land without permission. It creates a much better outcome when parents take responsibility for their children’s behavior so law enforcement does not have to intervene or EMS respond to an accident. Thank you for helping with these matters and we hope everyone has a great and safe summer.
